Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra
Event Details
Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra, part of Shen Yun Performing Arts, will be presenting "music from 5,000 years of civilization" at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence on Saturday, October 31 at 7:30pm.
Based in New York, Shen Yun's mission is to revive 5,000 years of civilization that has almost been lost under the Chinese communist regime. Each year, Shen Yun presents a brand new production that brings ancient legends, grand dynasties, different ethnic groups, and modern heroic tales to life through dance and music. One Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a live orchestra, dazzling animated backdrops, and handmade costumes.
Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra shares Shen Yun’s mission to revive five millennia of divinely inspired culture. It began to tour in the fall of 2012. Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra is most known for its perfect harmony of classical music of East and West. It blends the spirit of Chinese music with the power of a Western orchestra, creating a new frontier of classical music. Traditional Chinese music emphasizes the expression of inner feelings. Western music, meanwhile, focuses on the overall effect of the musical ensemble. The bedrock of soul-stirring melodies from the ancient Middle Kingdom is fully brought to life by a Western symphony.
Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra will perform original highlights from the 2015 tour, including "Sleeves of Grace" and "Scholarly Aspirations," Western classical favorites such as the ones composed by Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as feature solo performances of the bel canto technique by some of the world’s top classical Chinese singers.
Shen Yun has been acclaimed for its exquisite and distinct music, as well as the cultural essence that it revitalizes. Some reviews describe the music of Shen Yun as “beautiful sound…strikingly intricate melodies,” (NYTheatre.com), and “lilting, meditative music.” (Denver Post)
This will be the first time for Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra to perform in Rhode Island.
